Updates

Haven't updated in a while. Sol-B is getting more reactive everyday to people and things around him. He is eating more solid foods and opens his mouth wide for more.

Last few weeks, he was scratching his head in boredom A LOT. But somehow this week he stopped. He switched to playing with his ears. Apparently his dad loves to scratch his head when he was small too, hmmmm...

Meal time!

Sol-B eating and disliking broccoli. We now mix it with other stuff so he'll eat his veggies.

Just chilling out in the high chair after his meal.

A couple of weeks ago we were eating lobster. Sol-B was super high and was yelling in this high-pitched voice!

Sol-B playing beside the exersaucer. He is actually scared of it for a while, so I'm slowly introducing it to him to "warm" him up to it. Silly baby!

Playful Sol-B

Sol-B, like all other babies, loves attention and play with people, especially those making funny sounds.

6 months!

Sol-B celebrated his 6 month bday yesterday! Coincidentally, it is also the day that Sol-B rolled over from back to tummy on his own with purpose (not accidentally!) I was taking a nap while Daddy was playing with Sol-B and he rolled over twice, both on left side and right! So I've yet to see it! grrrr

Sol-B can also sit on his own for a short time now.

Playing with his toes. I wonder when he can put them in his mouth?

On the phone with grandma in HK. Hehe she doesn't know that we took video of the conversation!

Daddy reading to Sol-B at night. He was so restless and kept grabbing for the book and wanted to eat it too!

Playing with Daddy again.

Sol-B in a foul mood.

Laughing and crying

Sol-B is usually a happy boy. Most of the time he is cooing and smiling at most people.

Playing flying game with mommy:

Sol-B is also a lot more curious now. These few days he has been grabbing things with intent. Here is Sol-B looking around the things on the exersaucer:

Sol-B can now grab things now. Very dangerous!

Last week Sol-B fell asleep at 8pm, but unfortunately he thought it was only a nap, so he woke up at 9pm! Uh oh! He ended up not sleeping till 11pm! Next time I know to not let him fall asleep, or maybe just let him sleep 5-10 min. Or else he'll have too much energy and not want to sleep at night!

Sol-B in bad mood! Hahaha! Have to capture the cranky moments too!

豬嘴王

Haha! Sol-B has new nickname. This week he started to make this piggy-like pouty face. When daddy was little he liked to do that too...there are pictures of daddy with that face too. Aiya...

Okok...enough pouty lips pictures. Here are some nicer pics. Sol-B really likes to put his hands together to play with them. He also likes to play with his tongue and stick it out.

Rollover attempts

Sol-B has been trying hard at rolling over from back to tummy, with only 1 success so far in the washroom before he had a bath. Here is Sol-B hard at work.

Lat Saturday, Sol-B travelled out of the country for the first time! He went to Buffalo with mommy, daddy, por por and gung gung. He was really well behaved even though there was big traffic jam coming back. Mommy and daddy forgot to bring 407 transponder. We left fashion oulets mall at 2:30pm and we had to stop twice to feed Sol-B and we didn't get back to Scarborough until 7:30pm! Sol-B was really good as we all had to sing "Sol-B chu song" to calm him down!

More playtime and high chair

Sol-B really giggles a lot more now! He is REALLY ticklish and giggles every time when we tickle him.

He is also able to sit in the high chair now, albeit needing some cushions and towels to prop him up.

Motor skills

Finally uploaded more videos. Here's a couple showing Sol-B putting objects in his mouth.

First one shows Sol-B finally biting Sophie the Giraffe. So far he doesn't seem too too interested in Sophie.

Sol-B playing under the play gym and biting the rattle. At the end he decides that his hand is far more tastier!

First time Sol-B in the exersaucer. He didn't seem too interested in the toys on the side of the exersaucer yet. This was a couple of weeks ago.

New skills

Sol-B has more new motor skills now. He's able to put his hands together and play with them. He is also grabbing onto stuff all the time: my hair, my clothes, his bib..last night he knocked off a basket full of toiletries to the ground! Really have to watch him and put dangerous stuff out of reach now!

Giggling videos

Sol-B giggles a lot more consistently now. He is really fun to play with now. Funniest thing is that even when mommy and daddy "bites" him, either on the cheeks or that meaty thigh of his, he still smiles and giggles! Silly baby!

Sol-B still can't turn over yet. But he is getting more active every day so really need to keep an eye on him.

4.5 months

Haven't updated in a long while. Sol-B is now 4.5 months, next Thurs he'll be 5 months already! Time sure passes by fast.

Sol-B changed a bit in the last couple of weeks ago, he had a lot more trouble to go to sleep for naps and bedtime. Kelvin and I debated whether to use any sleep training methods or not, but in the end we decided that we just use more patience and love. If he sleeps while nursing and finds comfort in that, so be it. He's only 4.5 months after all and he needs us the most during the first year. I think he'll eventually grow out of it and sleep well on his own when he's ready. I mean that's what humans did for tens of thousands of years right?

Sol-B is absolutely adorable and has lots of reaction now. He loves to play with mommy and daddy and will smile at anyone who tries to play with him. His neck is also a lot stronger so tummy time is actually enjoyable for him now.

He is also trying to flip, but no success yet. Hard to capture that on video. The moment I try, he just looks at the camera and doesn't move. I guess I have to capture it on video secretly....

Sol-B talking

Well, Sol-B is not really talking talking! Just baby talk, as if he's having a conversation with us!

This one was taken about 2-3 weeks ago before bedtime. He really seems to be listening to me!

This video was taken last week when he really started to make a lot more baby talk sounds! He is usually in the best mood first thing in the morning during the morning breakfast feed.

懶腰王

Sol-B loves to do many big stretches, especially after he wakes up. He is truly a 懶腰王!

Here Sol-B attempts the stretch, but could only do 1 hand since the other one is still tied down. hehehe

He can also hold a rattle briefly in his hand now!

Many firsts

There were many "firsts" for Sol-B lately.

Por por gave him his first haircut last week. His hair on back of his head near his neck is causing him to sweat a lot so Por Por trimmed it a little bit!

Sol-B first giggled to his dad last Thursday early in the morning. Only giggled to his dad though for 2 days in a row. No luck capturing that on video so far...

Sol-B is starting to attempt to roll over from front to back. He is always stretching out his arm and wiggling around.

Sol-B LOVES to suck his fingers now.

Tummy Time

Sol-B doesn't seem to be a big fan of tummy time. A lot of times he just lies there and not move! One time (this happened more than a month ago), we thought he woke up from his nap and we thought it's good idea for tummy time, he fell asleep on his tummy and slept for an hour!

Eventually his arm was pushing agaist his lips! So funny!

Here are some more recent tummy time videos.

Visit by Ben

Kelvin's high school friend Ben came back to Canada for a visit. He, his grandfather, and his cousin came over for dinner last weekend. Sol-B doesn't seem to like Ben very much.

Sol-B is definitely more big boy now. He is sleeping better for sure. He can now sleep from 10pm-4:30am or 5am. We'll need to work at an earlier bedtime for him later on for sure, but this is what works for us for now. I took a video of him as he is waking up from his nap. hehehee

3-months

Last Friday, Sol-B is 3 months old! We went for his 3-month checkup: 5.23 kg, 57.5 cm in length, head circumference 39.5cm. Still only at around 10th percentile, so still lots of room for improvement.

Sol-B now responds to people a lot more. He really is a happy baby and is just so cute and lovable. He has found his hands and puts his fist/fingers into his mouth with ease now, both right and left hand. At first he only puts his right hand in his mouth. So we put on mittens on his right hand. Then he discovered his left hand. So now we put mittens on both his hand, and let them breath out once in a while (usually during nursing).

Some more recent videos:

Sol-B loves to look at the mirror. Notice he still tries to suck his fingers even with his mittens on! Silly baby must be wondering why the mittend doesn't have the same "salty" taste as his fingers. It's really funny b/c he'll try to pull away as we try to put on his mittens. Gotta get a video of that reaction later!

Morning Videos

A video of Sol-B a few mornings ago after nursing and changing his diaper. He's usually in very good mood if he had enough sleep, no reflux, and after good feeding.

He has a lot of hiccups though. But I'm sure all babies are like that! He also is making a lot more new sounds, as if he's having a conversation with us!

Sol-B discovers his hands

In the last few days, I think Sol-B has discovered his hands. He started to put his fist and his fingers in his mouth, even if he is not hungry. Also, he would kick around and bang his fist down the water to make more splashes!

Also, look how much Sol-B has grown in the last 2.5 months!

This pic was taken with the red car when Sol-B was 2 weeks old. Poor Sol-B was only skin and bones back then! He is only barely longer than the red car. Also, the shirt looks so big on him! Now he has almost outgrown that size of diaper shirts.

Look at Sol-B now at 2.5 months!

Sleeping

Lately we've been trying to teach Sol-B better sleep habits: to sleep on his own, to fall asleep on his own, and to fall back asleep if he awakes. It really requires a lot of patience!

Poor Sol-B has a lot of gas and reflux so sometimes that wakes him up a lot. But if he feels well, he is able to sleep at night for 5.5 hours in a row! Last night around 1am, I heard a stir so I took a peak at Sol-B. He awoke and had his eyes open, and then he fell back asleep! Good improvement. Before sometimes he gets scared after he wakes up and he'll cry and I'll have to cuddle him back to sleep.

Before Sol-B goes to bed, we have to burp him a lot or put him in upright position for quite a while so he won't have reflux. Look at how tired he is but he still won't go to sleep!

Sol-B almost falling asleep in my shoulder.

Very tired Sol-B burping after last meal of the day:

Sol-B is a very alert baby especially to sounds. Even a little bit of sudden sound he'll jerk. Aiya... too alike his dad!

豬肉佬

Sol-B has many nicknames, one of which is 豬肉佬. Although last week at his 2-month checkup he's only 9 lbs 2 oz, he looks very meaty, hence the nickname! Some bath time pics:

Sol-B enjoys bathtime very much, except washing his hair.

Look at how relaxed he is! So 歎!

Sol-B says: "I'm indeed king of the playpen!"

Sol-B and I finally took some pics together. We haven't taken pics together for a long time!

Daddy loves to kiss and even more to "bite" poor Sol-B.

Daddy and Sol-B and sharing a close bonding session:

Yea yea having a talk with Sol-B intently listening:

Sol-B sits much more comfortably in his car seat now. He used to cry every time we put him in the car seat. No more of that cuz he's big boy now!

Curious Sol-B

Sol-B is very curious now and focuses on objects a lot more. He loves to look at people's faces, especially mine! heheeee

Unfortunately sometimes he is too curious and doesn't like to sleep, especially in the car. He'd rather look out the window at the outside world zooming by. What baby doesn't like to sleep in the car?!?!

Gung gung and Por Por bought a new playplen so Sol-B can sleep at their home. Look at how focused he is on the mobile!

Sol-B's many firsts

Since Sol-B is only 2 months old, there are still a lot of "firsts" for him.

Last Friday, he had his first bottle of expressed milk. Since breastfeeding is quite established now and he likely won't have nipple confusion. He took to the bottle on the 1st try!

He also attended Pearl and George's wedding last Saturday for his first wedding. Congrats Pearl and George! Sol-B was crying a lot during the ceremony but luckily the pastor let me watch the ceremony from his office so he wasn't too too disturbing. Also thanks to Lisa who helped me carry him for 1 hour during the reception. A+ grade to Sol-B for sleeping most of the time! hehe

Taking pic with Adele jea jea and pretty mommy Renee:

On Sunday, he also went to dim sum for the first time. Again, he slept throughout the meal in grandma's arms. Grandma went back to HK on Tuesday. Sol-B will miss her.

New pics with Snoopy

Sol-B took pictures with Snoopy again a few days ago when we went to por por's house for BBQ. Look at how much he has grown! Following are the pictures we took when Sol-B was only 2 weeks old.

Sol-B was already quite nosy at 2 weeks at was checking out the snoopies.

Sol-B in big Snoopy's arms:

Now this is Sol-B at 7 weeks old. He has lost his newborn appearance and has grown quite a bit!

Sol-B fast asleep amongst the snoopies:

Hehe...I'm almost as big as you la, big snoopy!

My nose is much smaller than yours, snoopy!

I'm almost as big as you la, big snoopy!

I'm a big mau lei!

Sol-B's first trip to McDonald's

On Saturday, both Kelvin and I woke up early (well, I wake up at 6:30am-7am every day anyway). So we decided to go to Wal-Mart and also eat MickeyD's for breakfast. Kelvin's parents were up early that day too so they also came along.

I haven't had a McDonald's breakfast in sooooo long! Taste so good! Sol-B was asleep the whole time during the 1-hour trip.

Moon Yuet

We had Moon Yuet dinner on Saturday at Perfect Chinese Restaurant. Fortunately Sol-B was very well behaved after he had a feeding. He opened his eyes wide for the pictures and then fell asleep in my arms while I ate with my left hand. I have to get used to the "not being able to eat b/c have to take care of baby" while out in restaurants!

Signature book. The picture is drawn by one of my mom's students from this picture:

Sol-B was hungry again on the way home. We gave him a pacifier to soothe him temporarily on the ride home. I know many people will say this is a big NO NO. The pacifier is ONLY for emergency use!
