Sol-B's first trip to McDonald's

On Saturday, both Kelvin and I woke up early (well, I wake up at 6:30am-7am every day anyway). So we decided to go to Wal-Mart and also eat MickeyD's for breakfast. Kelvin's parents were up early that day too so they also came along.

I haven't had a McDonald's breakfast in sooooo long! Taste so good! Sol-B was asleep the whole time during the 1-hour trip.

Moon Yuet

We had Moon Yuet dinner on Saturday at Perfect Chinese Restaurant. Fortunately Sol-B was very well behaved after he had a feeding. He opened his eyes wide for the pictures and then fell asleep in my arms while I ate with my left hand. I have to get used to the "not being able to eat b/c have to take care of baby" while out in restaurants!

Signature book. The picture is drawn by one of my mom's students from this picture:

My niece Karena help cover Sol-B's eyes b/c the light is too bright!

Sol-B was hungry again on the way home. We gave him a pacifier to soothe him temporarily on the ride home. I know many people will say this is a big NO NO. The pacifier is ONLY for emergency use!

Lighting Lantern

To celebrate Sol-B's first month, we lit a lantern last Thursday to tell the Lui elders about Sol-B.

Hand and feet imprints

Last Saturday, we went to make hand and feet imprints for Sol-B. At first we were a bit hesitant to have them done or not b/c they are quite expensive, but I think it's quite worth it now.

Sol-B was very cooperative as he was sleeping while in por por's arms, so that made the making of the feet cast go very smoothly. Por por at the end gave Sol-B a grade of A- for behaviour! Can't give him too much praise so quickly!

Look at me and 2 grandmas fussing over Sol-B while the grandads sit there...

Sol-B fast asleep as his feet imprints are being casted:

First time to 茶餐廳

Last Friday, I went for my post-natal visit and we took Sol-B along b/c you never know how long the doctor's wait will be and Sol-B is being breastfed. Afterward, we went to HK style fast food restaurant 茶餐廳 to eat and drank HK style milk tea for the first time in more than a month! Boy, does it taste good!

Sol-B was crying at first in the restaurant. He quited down after we pull his hat over his eyes and he then went to sleep! Apparently, his dad and his yea yea are like that too! Hmmm...

Sol-B's dirty scalp

Sol-B doesn't really have any baby smell. He actually has a 佬味smell, just like his dad! Oh well, I guess it's ok b/c he's a boy!

We didn't really brush his hair too much at first, only washed it or wiped with wet cloth. He has some cradle cap. Look at how much dead skin he has after grandma brushed his hair today!

Sol-B 1 month

June 14, 2010 marks Sol-B's 1-month birthday. We visited the pediatrician in the morning and Sol-B now weights 7 lbs 3 oz! He's only in the 5th percentile in weight for his age though. But he started off at only 5 lbs 7oz so he has some catching up to do!

The whole family had dinner and Sol-B collected lai see from gung gung, por por, yea yea and mah mah. Oh yeah, even from 大伯! We also lighted a lantern to "tell the elder relatives that Sol-B is now 1 month". Something like that anyway...

But poor Sol-B was over exhausted that evening and didn't sleep at all from 6pm-1am. He even didn't have enough energy to cry. Poor Sol-B.

We'll sure he gets enough nap time during the day from now on...

Sol-B 升呢

Sol-B finally upgraded to size 1 diapers! Hooray!

The NB sizes are more expensive and hardly on sale. When they are, they're always sold out. Good that we have a healthy size of size 1 stock.

Week 2

By the end of week 2, Sol-B has surpassed his birth weight and weigh 5 lbs 13 oz! Good job! Also, he started to wake up on his own to feed. Good for us since we don't have to force him awake every 2 hours to feed. He is also opening his eyes to look around this world more!

Sol-B looks so serious in this pic!

Week 1

The first week was soooo tough. Since Sol B was born early and a little underweight, he was SOOOO sleepy. We had to wake him up every 2 hours to feed and use all kinds of methods to keep him awake: cold wet towel, tickling, brush, and even Daddy's beard! By the end of the first week and third time to the pediatrician, Sol B finally gained weight! Phew!

Por por took time off and came to our house to cook dinner for us every night. She even had the honours of giving Sol B his first bath at home! He loves taking bath! He's a water baby!

Sol B's first time at home! He's a little jaundiced.

All calm after the bath!

Birth Story

Solomon Lik Lui was born on May 14, 2010 weighing 5lbs 7 oz. He came early by 3 weeks so it was a little unexpected.

On May 13, I went to work as usual. The night before I didn't sleep well as I felt more uncomfortable. Throughout the day, I thought I keep getting fake contractions (formally called Braxton-Hicks contractions). I worked through the day and after work I even went to Zellers to do some last minute shopping. That night at home it was as normal even though I felt uncomfortable at times and even watched the NBA playoffs.

That night however, I couldn't sleep at all. I had to get into all fours to get comfortable at times. At around 4am, that was when I felt my water broke and that's when the PAIN started. I alerted Kelvin. He packed up what we needed to the hospital. I took a quick shower and off we went.

Kelvin was in such a daze. He even missed the 401 highway exit from Express to Collector and exited on Avenue Road. I was in such pain already that I even cursed at him! We finally arrived at North York General at around 5am. I was admitted immediately as the nurse told me I was fully dilated already. I was wheeled into Labour and Delivery and started pushing. Too late for any epidural or any medication.

I can't remember how long I pushed for, probably 1 hour or so? He was born at 7:08am, just at the end of the doctor and nurse's shift.

Wow...even when I think back I can't believe it happened so fast. Kelvin said I have really high pain tolerance as all that time before I was at work and at home still doing normal stuff!

The day Solomon was born was supposed to be my last day of work before mat leave begins. My manager even bought me a cake, but I wasn't there to eat it!

Welcome to Sol B'sblog

I finally have some free time to start a blog about Sol B. Can't believe it's been almost 1 month already since he was born. I'll try to recap some things of the past month.
